“Redesign the organization’s product line under sustainability criteria with the aim of developing a new range of state-of-the-art refrigerated cabinets that halve the energy consumption of current cabinets.”
With this statement, Exkal is once again one of the initiatives selected by 101 Business Examples of Actions #PorElClima 2021.
This 4th edition of the 101 Business Examples #PorElClima once again recognizes the commitment and climate ambition of the business sector, including small, medium and large companies, in order to make visible their specific initiatives to face the climate emergency and promote decarbonization actions.
Exkal’s objective is focused from the foundations of the circular economy, applying eco-design and so that most of its components can be reused once the useful life of the furniture ends. In general, it is sought that 87% of the weight of the furniture be recyclable and around 69% can be reused, and that they be products with ultra low energy consumption (reduction of 43% compared to the current most efficient class). In addition, the aim is to reduce CO2 emissions associated with the new furniture developed by around 50%.
The measures implemented to achieve this are:
- Development of a complete range of furniture with natural refrigerants, which do not destroy the ozone layer and which are also found in abundance in nature.
- Design of furniture that does not need defrosting (process of eliminating ice in the machines by means of heat) and that present temperature uniformity inside. This aspect not only reduces the consumption of the furniture, but also improves the conservation of food, reducing waste.
- Reconfiguration of the deflectors and turbulence generators, reducing energy losses due to convection of the equipment, favoring air renewal and contributing to cabinet cooling.
- Development of a new door closing system that minimizes energy losses due to opening and closing.
